Why Darcy?
There are two questions I get asked more than anything else:
“Will you sell the Darcy scarves?”
“Why is it called Darcy?”
I'll leave the scarves hanging for now. Today, let's settle the second one.
My full name is Hannah Porter-Jones. My grandma's name? Bridget Jones. Yes, really.
As you can imagine, the Bridget Jones books and films have always been a very big deal in my family. There have been countless rewatches, quotes over Christmas dinner and a lot of laughing every time Grandma introduces herself to someone new. You'll be pleased to know she's every bit as iconic as her namesake. Possibly more, though I might be biased.
And if you know Bridget, you know Darcy. Mark Darcy is the steady, dependable one who turns up when it matters, gets things done without any fuss and likes you just as you are.
Which, when you think about it, is pretty much the job description for a brilliant event planner.
Lotta and I had a surprisingly long wish list for the name. It had to be recognisable, a name people already know and feel warm about. Short and sweet, so it's easy to say, easy to remember and easy to type into a browser at 1am when you've just remembered you're hosting 40 people next month. Semi-unique, familiar but not something you'd confuse with a hundred other sites. And personal, because it had to mean something to us.
Darcy ticked every box. And for the Austen fans who've already spotted it: yes, our registered company name is Pemberley, Mr Darcy's home (of course), and our Darcy's home too.
Grandma, this one's for you!
P.S. We hear you on the scarves. Working on it ;)
